Antioch Baptist Church's second annual Gospel Fest to be held at the Elizabeth Street facility from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 28, will include more than music. Although those who attend will hear plenty of traditional gospel tunes from soloists, duets and groups, there also will be dancing, rapping and poetry, along with games, activities for children, vendors and food.

Last weekend, Chastity Bennett of Frisco and her two school-age daughters cleaned out their closets. They found hand-me-downs, items they took to a resale shop and others to give away. This week, they hit the stores to begin back-to-school shopping in search of "reasonable prices," Bennett said Tuesday at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco with her 9- and 12-year-old daughters.

Birthdays and holidays have always been a big deal in my family. Over the years, I have sent my nieces packages and cards for Easter, Valentine's Day and other minor holidays as well as for Christmas and their birthdays. I've also always acknowledged my brother and sister-in-law on their birthdays and Christmas.  

Mike and Michele Ptaschinski are testaments to that. Over the past 20 years, they have seen time and time again how the smallest acts of kindness can lift the spirits of those on the receiving end. With that bit of knowledge in their back pockets, the Ptaschinskis decided to pay it forward.  

Santa Claus could be coming to town. Seriously. Christopher Parada, the Palace Theatre executive director, made a presentation to the Lockport Town Board on Wednesday about bringing a Santa House to Day Road Park.

Bremner volunteers with the Providence St. Peter Foundation Christmas Forest Executive Committee. She is also active in the Fred Hutch Guild, Junior League Service organization. Bremner enjoys golfing, cooking, entertaining, reading, movies and gardening.  

Los Robles Master Chorale artistic director Lesley Leighton recently announced the chorale's 2010-11 season. Six concert programs will feature an array of choral music as well as traditional holiday fare. The season will also highlight the music of John Rutter, a leading composer of choral music.
